Description

This Mini was built on 9th Nov 1959 and was first registered on 13th Nov 59 under reg No: 7AOG. The "AOG" reg is interesting as there were 3 "works" rally minis with Reg Nos: 617AOG, 618AOG & 619AOG. This mini too had evidently been rallied before (there are clear signs of internal brake, fuel & elec lines - as used on all rally cars. So the current owner decided to rebuild it in rally trim. This work was completed in 2017 and included a "works" roll-cage and RAC type sump-guard. Other rally modifications include adjustable suspension and shock absorbers. Two spare wheels are bolted to the rear-seat squab. Additional water cooling has been fitted, including a small forward-facing additional radiator. The current engine is 998cc and develops approx 60BHp running on twin H1 SUs with Downton inlet & exhaust manifolds & AEA731 camshaft. Oil pressure is 80psi (cold) and 60psi (hot). The car has competed in a 3-day rally in Wales and several "HERO" challenge 1 day rallies. It is being sold as the owner is now 79 and doesn't want to continue rallying. The buyer should love this mini as (to my knowledge) it is the only 1959 mini in rally trim. There are several 1960 minis in rally trim, but just this single 1959 rally mini.
