Welcome to the sale of my Jaguar MK1 1957 2. 4 RHD (manual)
Bought by me at Mathewsons Auctions (Bangers & Cash) on 29/ 05/ 2016
The car was manufactured for export and dispatched to Rhodesia now South Africa on 28th January 1957.
The Mark 1 was the for runner of the Mk 2 which was a very popular car with many examples out there in the classic car community. However the MK1 is much rarer with only small numbers left.
Its a 2. 4 petrol engine with the moss manual gearbox with overdrive.
No previous history came with the car other than the import papers which I used to register the car in the UK via DVLA on 07/ 02/ 2018.
It is registered as a Historic vehicle so no MOT or Tax required and has been given an age related number plate 998 UYY.
I then had the car recommissioned by a local Independent Jaguar specialist which included brake overhaul, fuel system and suspension with a detailed invoice and description of work at a cost of £2264. 87. I also had a doors closed paint refresh at a cost of £2500.
The car is solid underneath with no rot or grot just a little surface rust as shown in a couple of the pictures but the export models going to hot countries did not get under sealed as they were shipped out in crates and assembled at their final destination. Some of the areas are like brand new underneath which is incredible given its age at 68 years old.
The interior has been totally refurbished at some point in recent years with new headlining upholstered seats and carpeting. The wood has had a refresh at some point.
The engine is original and sounds fine unfortunately the original air filter and housing have been replaced in the past with chrome modern pancake types but doesn’t detract too much.
I am selling due to Ill health and no longer have the time left to use the car. I would recommend a light recommission as it has not been used over the last couple of years but has been started and stored in a heated barn with cover on it.
Viewings are welcome but please serious buyers only as I have not got the energy for the tyre kickers and test pilots. The car is not perfect but in good condition for a 68 year old vehicle. I am not looking for a part ex thanks and as I have to sell all my cars.
