Description
1997 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2
P111 XTN plate will be sold with the car. Registered 31st October 1997, so would otherwise be on an ‘R’ plate. Interestingly this car was originally a Porsche demo car and was assigned the registration THE911
Very very early model with cable throttle 3. 4 engine (dual row IMS) and factory LSD
140, 820 miles - engine on approx 98k miles (new engine from Porsche GB in 2002 @ 42k miles)
Black with black leather, non-aero model with amber indicators. This, with the fact its lowered on the standard 17s gives it a lovely retro club-sport vibe
Pretty standard car other than lowering springs, 997 short shift kit and aftermarket DAB radio
Quite a few owners over the years, but I’ve owned it for 6 years
Self-serviced in my ownership, but can still detail history (honestly, changing the oil and filter on these cars is a 5 minute job), thoroughly maintained and mechanically very healthy
Recent Uniroyal tyres all round
Really cool car, super reliable, surprisingly practical and will be missed. Unfortunately, I have too many cars and it needs to be sold
History
Way too much paperwork to list, but the main points are…
Replacement engine fitted by Porsche 12/ 07/ 2002 @ 42k miles
Works carried out by Friends Green Porsche 18/ 05/ 2018 @124k miles
- Clutch
- IMS bearing
- RMS
- Engine mounts
- Suspension refresh
- Wheel refurb
- Bumper respray
In my ownership 2019 - 2025
- Starter motor, Y cable, alternator and 12v battery – to cure the famous lazy hot start issue - 2021
- Full suspension rebuild, including lowering springs and laser alignment - 2022
- Jacking points welded and undersealed - 2024
Things to consider
- Aircon needs regassing
- Paintwork is very presentable for age and mileage, but obviously not perfect
- Some wear to seats as you’d expect
- 1 keyPersonally I sought out a classic looking non-aero model, knowing that the early 3. 4 cars are the most robust
