Description

This AC Greyhound is a rare and elegant example of British automotive craftsmanship—one of just 84 built by the marque.

First registered in July 1962, remarkably, its first owner kept it on the road for nearly four decades, with regular servicing carried out at the AC factory.

This Greyhound has enjoyed some time in the spotlight, having appeared in a Ralph Lauren catalogue photoshoot (a copy of which is included in the sale) and featured in Classic & Sports Car magazine.

Its aluminium bodywork contributes to a featherlight kerb weight of just 1, 020 kg, and in 2016, the car underwent a bare-metal respray by the renowned Brooklands Motor Company, an AC specialist. It has been garaged throughout its life.

As with many surviving Greyhounds, this example no longer has its original Bristol engine, which was replaced decades ago with a more practical and reliable Triumph 2. 5-litre inline-six.

The odometer currently reads 19, 739 miles (five-digit), with 97, 224 miles recorded under its original ownership. The speedometer is currently inoperative, and the mileage is therefore not warranted.

Mechanics:
2500cc, straight-six engine
4-speed manual transmission with overdrive
Annual engine oil and filter changes
Routine maintenance: joint/ axle greasing, gearbox, and differential oil changes
SU carburettors rebuilt by Triumph specialist Enginuity (2014)
Brake system overhaul by Girling (2015)
Full bare-metal respray (2016 – Brooklands Motor Company)
Clutch replacement, trunnions, track rod ends, bushes, bearings, and UJs refurbished by Redline Classic Cars (2020)
Front disc brakes
And numerous updates for modern reliability, including a Kenlowe cooling fan and a high-torque starter motor (installed in 2021)

This Greyhound is finished in Gunmetal Grey, a rare and desirable colour that matches its original shade, and is paired with a Bordeaux leather interior. It rides on 15-inch AC Cobra wire wheels, with new tyres fitted in August 2023.

Interior features include:
A wood-rimmed steering wheel
Smiths gauges and clock
Tinted glass sun visors
Push-out front and rear quarter-light windows
Heater and ventilation controls
The car is also supplied with its original jack, spare wheel, and owner’s handbook.

The sale also includes a unique logbook from the first owner, Mr. Barker, meticulously recording fuel stops and mileage—a detail fondly remembered by former AC factory technicians.
