Description
originally a lightly used and well cared for standard Ford Cortina MK 1 GT 1. 5 from 1966
The car was then converted, build up to Long Distance Marathon Rally Speciation in 1998 in readiness to compete in the London to Sydney Marathon Rally held in June 2000.
The car remains in the original owner/ drivers name form 1998, Car was modifications were to FIA Speciation's.
This car finished the rally in 41st place out of 95 entries.
The body shell was prepared by David Sutton's Historic Motorsport in Daventry, from sand blasted, strengthening etc.
The back axle and brakes were replaced with Atlas back axle larger half shafts, limited slip diff and disc brakes, this was completed by Phil and Mick Squires at Rally and competition Stoke on Trent.
the rear suspension used heavier duty rear springs and Group 2 Bilstein Shock Absorbers Uprated bushes and strengthened anti-tramp bars.
Front sturts had larger Group 4 type Bilstein Shock Absorbers, stiffer Lotus front anti roll bar tightened up front end.
Steering was upgraded for a more direct steering feed back.
The engine was built by Mass Racings Alan Sherwood, it was built for extra power but most importantly, not at the expense of reliability or its ability to run on poor fuel. The Crankshaft, Rods, Flywheel were all balanced, Flywheel was also lightened.
Power was up to 125bhp from original 78bhp.
