Description
This rare and desirable Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Mk1 is finished in the elegant factory colour combination of Verde Pino (Pine Green) over Skai Cinghiale (Tan). Produced in July 1969 as a factory right-hand-drive example and originally sold to Johannesburg, South Africa, it remains a remarkably authentic early car. The Mk1 is notably scarcer than later Mk2 variants and this example retains the correct early-style front bumper and the highly sought-after “flying buttress” front seats. Unlike many modified cars presented in the popular “GTA style”, this GTV retains much of its original character, a quality that enhances its appeal.
The car presents beautifully both inside and out, with recent cosmetic refreshment including new carpets, fresh sound deadening and period-correct static seatbelts. The paintwork, trim and interior combine to create a smart, well-sorted appearance while preserving the car’s authentic period feel. An Alfaholics Fast Road Suspension Kit has been fitted to sharpen handling and provide a subtly lower stance, though the original suspension components will accompany the car should the next custodian wish to return it to standard specification.
The genuine Carello headlamps (not film covered) are purely a styling choice I made for the car during my ownership, and these could easily be swapped for a set of clear lamps if preferred.
Currently UK registered with a V5C, all import duties correctly paid, the car benefits from historic vehicle status which provides free road tax and MOT exemption. It is available to view near Tring in Hertfordshire. Priced at 42499 or near offer. The car was purchased in June 2022 and, following some delays in the shipping and registration process, it has since been extensively recommissioned by a marque specialist to ensure reliability and usability. The twin Weber DCOE 40 carburettors were fully rebuilt, re-jetted and balanced, and a new throttle linkage and choke cable were installed. The gearbox was removed to cure a minor oil leak and fitted with a new clutch kit, all seals replaced with high-quality Corteco items, and fresh gearbox oil added. A full engine service was carried out with new oil, filters, spark plugs, ignition components and gaskets as required. Further work included replacement of the brake fluid, coolant, fuel pump and oil pressure switch. A new wiper motor was also fitted, along with minor wiring repairs to ensure electrical reliability.
As a result, the car drives superbly. The engine is crisp and responsive, holds temperature correctly, and delivers strong throttle response without fuel smells in the cabin. The gearbox shifts cleanly with none of the typical second-gear crunch associated with these models. Braking performance is reassuring and handling is improved thanks to the suspension upgrade.
This is therefore an exceptionally well-sorted early 1750 GTV Mk1, combining rarity, originality and significant recent investment to ensure dependable and enjoyable classic motoring.
