Description
This Z was on display at the NEC Classic Show last weekend. If you were there and came to look you know exactly how good this car is in the metal.
This Datsun 240Z was first registered in November 1971 and amazingly retained by the original owner for another 48 years until 2019 when I bought it and became just the second owner. As a UK dealer supplied car, it is in all probability the lowest mileage original RHD example left in the UK today with just 24, 700 documented miles making it the ultimate collector's example with the most complete history and provenance available. It has every MOT from 1982 and tax discs to match.
The first owner only used it regularly for the first three or four years and then unable to bring himself to sell it, put it into his garage for use as a second car and attending occasional classic car shows. Importantly, he always kept it on the road, taxed and MOT'd each year and retained all the service records and documents in a file. Most cars with this mileage will have been laid up off the road in storage for many years but this car has remained in constant use albeit very sparingly in most years over all of that time.
Aside from a re-paint a couple of years ago in the original colour of Datsun 905 Monte Carlo Red, the car is completely original and is not a restored car. All body panels comprise of original factory steel, pretty much unheard of for any UK supplied 240Z.
The original L24 2. 4-litre six-cylinder engine runs on twin Hitachi/ SU carburettors producing 150bhp and capable of going from 0–60mph in around 8 seconds – very quick for any car in 1971. It is the quietest and sweetest sounding L24 engine you can imagine, a testament to the low mileage.
Wheels are 14 inch Wolf Race slot alloys as dealer supplied when new and these have been recently diamond cut and polished plus fitted with brand new Falken tyres all round. A stainless steel exhaust system was fitted in 2019 by marque specialists Fourways Engineering who looked after the car and MOT'd it over recent years.
The interior is in completely original condition. The seats are excellent with minimal signs of age with just a tiny scratch on the base of the driver’s seat. The dashboard is in excellent condition with no splits or cracks to the top, the original steering wheel is present and all the instruments are work correctly and are in good order. The headlining and carpets are commensurate with the original diamond vinyl trim over the transmission tunnel still present and only carpeted over for extra sound insulation/ comfort.
There are two keys present, the original handbook, a stack of old tax discs matched with a collection of previous MOT certificates and service receipts showing the car was used very little each year and confirming the mileage.
You can buy an average so called 'restored/ repainted/ welded' 240/ 260Z around the mid £30k's. However, the extra 'value' in this car for slightly more money in comparison is off the scale. You just don't usually find original unwelded UK market 240Z's. Add in the incredible low mileage and history and you are looking at what is unquestionably the best 240Z on the market at any price point and a great investment in the long term.
I spend most of my time in Europe now and have two other lhd 240Z's that I use for events and shows over there - it's the only reason this car is for sale as I don't spend enough time in the UK nowadays to justify keeping it. Serious enquiries and viewing welcome in Exeter, Devon. 5 mins off J30, M5
