Finished in Astral Silver with Black cloth interior this Mercedes Benz 230E was first delivered by County Garages of Cheltenham to a local farmer who bought the car purely for weekend use and to take his wife to the races as she did not like travelling in the Land Rover!

He kept the car serviced and maintained by the supplying dealer until 2007 when his health began to fail and driving the Mercedes was no longer possible. The car was kept in the garage until 2015 when the car was inherited by the original owner's niece and her husband, who brought the car north to their home in Nottingham and used the car for several years until I bought the car from them for the first time in 2018. During this time, any maintenance and repair work was carried out by well regarded independent garage MB Nottingham Ltd.

I sold the car locally to a Mercedes Benz Club member at 45k miles who enjoyed it for a while before trading in with Mark at MTSV Classic Mercedes in 2020 for another Mercedes and I have been able to buy the car back from the last owner. The car is now displaying 63k miles and has just benefited from a thorough round of servicing, 4 new tyres, a wheel refurbishment, new centre caps and wheel bolts, a full detailing and fresh MOT to prepare for its next owner. The early pre-facelift W124 is widely regarded as a high water mark for Mercedes-Benz build quality and seem to last much better than many later models. This car is testament to that in that it shows no corrosion in any of the common areas: the sub frame mounting points, jacking points and inner front wings completely free of rust as can be seen from the remarkably clean MOT history record.

In my opinion, the M102 2. 3 litre engine is another sweet spot in the W124 range, superbly reliable and extremely smooth for a four cylinder engine. Nicer than the later multi-valve units, for sure. On the road, the 230E drives really well, the ride completely unlike a modern car and all the better for it. Gliding over bumps and absorbing poor road surfaces with refinement that low profile, run flat tyres could never achieve!

As I'm sure you will have noticed from the photos, G698 XAD has never had a radio fitted. The original owner was apparently not bothered, more keen to listen to the car than music! I have always chosen to leave this as it was from the factory but if you are looking at it thinking you would like a radio, I can arange either a period radio or a modern Continental / Blaupunkt bluetooth unit and speakers to be fitted by separate negotiation.

For any more information, if I have missed anything or for more photos / walk around video please feel free to give me a call.

Thanks for reading,

Jack
