We are pleased to present this June 1967 Mercedes‑Benz 250 SL “Pagode”, delivered in cabriolet configuration with a removable hard-top, in an exterior shade of Bleu 335 H and a Bordeaux interior.
We have a complete history dating back to 1968, confirming that this Pagode has had just three owners in Lyon.
One of them kept it carefully for almost forty-eight years, from 1970 to 2018, before it joined its current owner.
Produced between late 1966 and early 1968, the 250 SL is distinguished by its 2. 5‑litre inline six-cylinder developing 150 bhp, as well as the introduction of disc brakes on the rear wheels and an uprated torque output, giving it a more relaxed drive while still retaining the road-going qualities of the “Pagode” line.
An important feature of our example is that it was delivered new with the rare and highly prized 5-speed ZF manual gearbox (option code 232). Based on factory records, fewer than 5% of production were built with it from new, thanks to its substantial extra cost—providing it with a particularly rewarding feel at the wheel.
The bodywork was recently restored and is finished in Bleu 335 H, beautifully complemented by the Bordeaux interior: an elegant contrast that highlights the lines drawn by Paul Bracq, featuring its concave roof section (hence the nickname “Pagode”) and well-balanced proportions.
Inside, largely original, the Mercedes heritage is clearly evident: matching Bordeaux leather upholstery, wood trim elements on the dashboard and centre console, and a refined cockpit blending functional simplicity with fine materials.
We have its matching Hard Top, in a colour coordinated with the bodywork, as well as the roll bar system with a brand-new black Alpaga hood.
The vehicle has always been maintained meticulously, including recent work: axle/ differential overhaul, gearbox service, clutch, steering box, front suspension (train AV), the complete braking system, and new front and rear dampers (amortisseurs AV et AR)…
