Description
Please note that there is very little history with the car, the few receipts it does have are from my short term (1yr) of ownership.
This is a post-facelift example with the more desirable 'oval' dashboard - Alpine white exterior and burgundy interior.
Soon to be MOT Exempt (Aug 26) and will be Historic Tax Exempt soon after.
This would make an ideal winter project for the right buyer.
Engine and Gearbox
This 944 is fitted with the 2. 5 8 valve engine mated to a 5 speed box. The car starts runs and drives under its own steam though I have not driven over long distances as it will need a going over before driven on the road.
Under my ownership I've had the injectors cleaned and tested for peace of mind while fixing a rough idle. Results of this can be seen in the images. A pressure check was also performed when I first bought the car to get an idea of the overall health - all cylinders show good consistent compression.
NB: The fuel pump works on a switch - a quirk installed by one of its previous owners. I suspect this is a workaround to a known 944 problem. On further inspection it does appear to be installed competently using relays.
Bodywork
Surprisingly, there seems to be little rust on this 944 - the sills and arches are solid. There is some slight bubbling on the front ns wing but this looks to be isolated.
Paint work is a little faded and cracked in some area - so though presentable, would benefit from a polish all over.
The Martini livery may not be for every one but as it has been done well, and to avoid damage to paint underneath, I've left the decision to remove (or not to) to the next owner.
Brakes and Suspension
The car has been sitting for a number of years and I would highly recommend a set of pads and discs all round as well as a full bleed. The front OS caliper has been rebuilt as this was previously seized.
Suspension and bushes will need a thorough looking over, I imagine most of the front end bushes will need replacing.
The 15" tele-dials are in good condition and the centre caps will be included (not pictured). Note that all tyres show cracking and will need replacing before going back on the road. Originally bought with plans of a light re-commission to take on a couple of track days and as a useable classic.
The usual excuses of one too many projects and work commitments mean that this is becoming less likely.
If you are expecting concourse - this car is not for you. With the high number of owners, lack of previous history and Martini livery; this 944 would suit someone after a winter project/ track car.
Potential buyers should note that the last MOT was nearly 7 years ago and will require recommission. Do not expect to be able to drive this car home or to not be spending a few weekends on it.
Despite this, the car has plenty of potential and it would be a shame to have this parked up for as long as it has.
