Description
AJS G8 1926
• Rare 500 big port.
• Used for speedway and VMCC grass-track events. Now converted from methanol to petrol with a needle jet in the type 27 carb for road use.
• Runs on Castrol R via separate oil tank.
• Whilst converted to road use the full speedway kit is retained and included in sale. To include: shortened rear mudguard; rear wheel with oversize sprocket, chain extension and speedway tyre; single speed 500 gearbox and clutch; foot gear selector; small petrol tank; fast action throttle; outer speedway footpeg; straight through exhaust.
• Runs well.
• Currently using a 350 three speed gearbox for road use (500 box is 1 speed for speedway). This is a potential weakness because of the power of the 500 engine.
• Has a dating certificate and v5C registration document for age related number.
• There is spare race prepared 500 special engine comprising the robust side vale bottom end coupled with the over-head valve sports top end. This is believed to be unused. Built using Castrol R. This is an exceptional bike. Successfully raced back in its day and still having a good condition race engine it would be remarkably competitive in historic events despite being now 100 years old. There's even a spare engine if you get carried away.
Alternatively, with a bit more fettling it could be an amusingly fast road bike.
