Description
This car has been in our family since 2012 - my father and I being the last 2 owners in the history file. The bodywork is totally original and the car has always been garaged and is not driven at all during the winter months. A new Mazda hood was fitted by Specialist Cars of Ditchling, Sussex in 2013, and that remains unmarked. The car was undersealed ten years ago and the bodywork, including the sills, hood (and rear screen), are in excellent unmarked condition.
She runs on extremely rare genuine Mazda steel wheels with original Mazda red centre caps, Four virtually new Falken tyres, original spare and cover and jack etc all present and untouched.
The interior seats, dashboard and trim are standard and also presented in unmarked condition. There are a couple of upgrades. First, a Sony single-disc CD player that was in the car when we bought it, which benefits from a 3. 5mm aux in jack, subtly located in the centre console cubby for phones etc. Second, a Mountney wooden rim three-spoke steering wheel with Mazda red horn push (which replaced the faulty Mazda one you can see on the MOT history!).
The original rubber Mazda steering wheel will be sold with the care The factory-fit electric windows work perfectly, as does everything else.
Mechanically, apart from annual servicing and the odd light bulb here and there, the car has been totally faultless in our ownership and there is nothing to report. When not used over the winter she is kept on trickle charge and has never failed to start. A new Mazda clutch kit was fitted in 2024.
The car has an MOT until March 2026 with no advisories. On the right road, and on the right day, there’s nothing quite like a MK1 MX-5. She's a classic roadster with Japanese mechanicals; simplicity, charm, and driving fun, without the headaches of so many other classics. We've tried to keep the car as close to the original concept as possible and she attracts a following wherever she goes because of that purity.
