Description
Here for sale reluctantly is my 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. I purchased the car early 2025 and I have enjoyed it through the summer but a lack of storage space means I am once again thinning out my collection of cars. I am in a way 'testing the water' with the advert as I am in no rush to sell her, I will need to find alternative storage and justify keeping her to my wife if she doesn't sell but everything is for sale at the right price.
Since purchasing the car it has had a full in-depth inspection at a Rolls Royce and Bentley Specialist and came out with a strong report, it really is a very good one. Presented in Willow Gold over Nutmeg Brown paint and with Dark Brown leather the interior it is true 1970's class, find another like it! Since purchasing the car alongside the independent inspection I have had the interior cleaned including the leather and a period DAB Blaupunkt radio with Bluetooth fitted (not pictured) at a cost of £600. The paint has a deep shine to it and I would assume at some stage the car has been repainted in its original colours but to a very, very high standard, she has really been enthusiast owned throughout her life. There are no signs of corrosion on the body or underneath with only minor 47 year age related blemishes in places,
The Silver Shadow was an entirely new type of car for Rolls-Royce. It was the firm’s first monocoque design and the first Rolls to be mass-produced in significant numbers. Renowned for its excellent ride quality thanks to Citroën-derived hydropneumatic suspension, the Shadow sold very well indeed, with some 40, 000 examples leaving the Crewe factory. This 1978 example is the well-regarded Shadow II, resplendent in a distinctive two-tone paint scheme. As the photographs show, this is a very original and well-preserved example.

If I were to keep the car there are a couple of minor niggles being 47 years old the next owner may want to address that I would. Whilst these are very minor and they certainly do not hinder the use of the car I am just being honest:
- The tool kit is missing some of the tools from the original kit (see picture).
- The air-conditioning will need investigation at some stage as it is intermittent (currently disconnected).
If the car does not sell it will be going to the Le Mans Classic 2026, I would drive this car anywhere and it comfortably cruises on motorways at the UK speed limit without effort and 4 people on board, a really usable classic. Inspired by the YouTube channel 'Harrys Garage' and his trips in a Shadow II across Europe these good examples will only increase in value and demand. The colour is fantastic and echos the 1970's at their peak, this car gets more attention than some supercars when it is out on the road!
