Description
Morris Mini Super de Luxe 850 October 1967
I bought this in 1999, previous owner purchased it in 1984, one owner prior. 50K miles.
All panels original except small piece of drivers footwell and small area of adjacent wheelarch (welding done by me 25 years ago and still in perfect condition), I also renewed the rear subframe.
All original paintwork inside and out in Almond Green, all original interior including carpets.
Seats currently fitted are full leather from Riley Elf (excellent original vinyl seats included).
Seat belts fitted (front inertia, rear lap). Moto-Lita steering wheel. Stainless bumpers.
Third brake light fitted to parcel shelf (uncut shelf included). Fuses located under front parcel shelf.
Electric fuel pump with override switch. All rubber window and door seals replaced.
All cavities regularly injected with Dinitrol, soundproofing under carpets.
Cooper S running gear: displacers, front discs, larger rear drums, & wheels. (all original parts included). Excellant tyres. Stainless caliper pistons, stainless braided hoses, adjustable tie-rods and camber barckets. All cupro-nickel hydro pipes and fuel and brake pipes. All taper-roller wheel bearings.
Engine is A+ 998 bored +20, crank wedged, tuftrided, full balance, all by MED.
Cylinder head: hardened seats, manganese bronze guides, Rimflo valves, chambers equalised, standard valve gear, all renewed. All by Keith Calver, and built by me.
Gearbox: fully rebuilt by me with 4 synchro A+ gears, bushed planet gears, hardened cross pin, rod change, 3. 2 FD. Verto clutch with hydraulic operation.
Ancillaries: HIF38 carb (with fuel regulator) on Torquemaster alloy heated manifold, temperature-controlled Metro airbox. Metro 1300 cast iron exhaust manifold (inlet sawn-off) Metro downpipe into stainless RC50. Aldon custom distributor with Ignitor ignition and Flamethrower coil.
Mini Spares Supercool 2 core radiator, Kenlowe electric fan. By-pass deleted (water passes through manifold and heater instead). Magnom magnetic oil filter attachment.
The car drives very well, there is none of the pitching you get with standard wet suspension. Since I installed the Cooper S displacers about 20 years ago I have never needed to pump the system up.
The engine sounds turbine-like, it’s so well balanced, and the oil stays totally clean. Performance is quite spritely and gears all select well.
Body-wise, it is totally rust-free (helped by regular Dinitrol injection, including between the A panels, a place usually ignored) and has had no restoration work at all carried out (except one area of the floor noted above), and so it does have a couple of areas which you may wish to improve (very small dent in drivers door and very shallow depression in front of rear n/ s wheelarch), but is generally very presentable.
All inspections welcome. And all original parts are included, if you want them (850 engine and box, all running gear, seats etc etc). see description
