Description
WW2 Ford GPW Jeep - Olive Drab 1943 (Concours condition)
Chassis No GPW-100978 Engine No GPW-275222
This 1943 Ford GPW has had a total nut and bolt professional concours restoration.
The restoration involved stripping the body back to bare metal, retaining as many original parts as possible and restoring the jeep to the example you see today. The engine, gearbox, transfer box and axles have also undergone a full rebuild. The jeep has only covered 900 miles since the works were completed.
The jeep is named Vixen Tor and was modelled on the original Vixen Tor which was Major General Charles H. Gerhardt’s personal jeep. Gerhardt lead the 29th Infantry Division in WW2 and nicknamed the jeep after training his troops on Vixen Tor, Dartmoor before leaving for Normandy in June 1944.
The original Jeep is in the Maryland Museum of Military History in Baltimore, Maryland.
I have been in contact with the museum over the years and they have been very helpful, especially ensuring that certain details of the restoration are an exact replica.
This jeep starts and runs on the button. It only goes out on dry days and has never been driven in wet weather. As you can see by the photos the jeep is covered in top quality WW2 kit and original memorabilia which has been collected over many years. This outstanding and rare collection, all in the best possible condition, was started in the 1980s.
The Ford GPWs are sometimes considered slightly more desirable than the Willys jeep by some collectors, because they were only produced during WW2 with lower production numbers, guaranteeing war-era provenance.
A full service has just been completed.
