Description
This 1968 Porsche 911 is not a "concours trailer queen," but something far more desirable: a matching-numbers, specialist-maintained SWB 911 in a rare factory colour that is ready to be driven. It is a unique investment opportunity for any serious collector.
1968 stands as a landmark year for the Porsche 911. As the final production year of the "Short Wheelbase" (SWB) chassis, it represents the most refined and agile iteration of the original 911 silhouette before the wheelbase was lengthened for 1969. We are proud to present a remarkably honest, matching-numbers, US-market 911T that captures the pure driving experience of the 1960s.
Acquired by the current enthusiast owner in May 2012, this Porsche has been curated with a philosophy of preservation over restoration. Its history goes back to California (dry state) where it resided since new to 2012. Underpinning its mechanical integrity is a history of specialist care; most of the last 12-year tenure, the car has been fastidiously maintained by the late renowned Tony Outridge (ex Autofarm) and the expert team at Zuffen 911.
The car’s history file is a treasure trove for the Porschist, including an official Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA) confirming its matching-numbers status, all invoices since 2012, and a nostalgic collection of service records dating from the 1960s through the 1990s, including the original sale invoice. Finished in its factory-correct and sophisticated shade of Sand Beige (6807), the car possesses a timeless elegance. The paintwork presents impeccably, showing only the lightest "road-earned" patina in the form of minor chips to the front valence and wheels - evidence of a car that has enjoyed the open road rather than sitting static.
Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in period-correct minimalism. The Standard Black Leatherette interior is in excellent condition, further enhanced by the owner’s dedication to historical accuracy. This includes:
• A professionally restored five-gauge instrument cluster (all units in Miles).
• The installation of a period-correct radio Blaupunkt Frankfurt.
• A factory-specification, Perlon carpet.
Power comes from the matching-numbers 2. 0L flat-six, mated to the highly desirable 5-speed manual transmission. This 911T drives with the urgency and mechanical "thrum" that defined Porsche’s early racing success. While the engine bay remains largely original, it benefits from sensible reliability updates, such as a modern fuel pump.
The seller notes that the car performs beautifully on the road.
