Description
We are pleased to offer this Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8, registered in 1966, in a superb Dark British Racing Green configuration, paired with black upholstery fully matching colors.
As the ultimate evolution of the Austin-Healey 3000 line, the Mark III BJ8 represents the most refined version of the model. More powerful, better equipped and more refined than its predecessors, it retains all the character of the great British roadsters of the 1960s: a long bonnet, a generous straight-six, a instantly recognisable silhouette and a true driving pleasure.
This example stands out for an elegant and sought-after configuration, combining a deep exterior shade with a sober and timeless black cabin. Sold new by Bradley Motors in Richmond, Virginia, this Austin-Healey benefits from well-documented provenance. It is accompanied by the British Motor Heritage Trust confirming its original components and authenticity.
The car underwent a complete restoration between 2008 and 2010, fully documented by an extensive photo dossier. This restoration covered the entire car: bodywork, interior, mechanicals…
The bodywork is presented in very good condition, with a deep, glossy Dark British Racing Green paint. The car retains all the hallmark elements of the BJ8 in excellent presentation: chrome oval grille, domed bonnet, distinctive air intake, Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III badge, chrome bumpers, separate rear lights specific to Phase 2 evolutions and wire wheels.
The interior matches the external presentation. In 2+2 form, our Austin-Healey BJ8 offers a versatile layout with two small rear seats that enhance its usability. The black upholstery with piping has been restored to its original specification and shows a meticulous finish.
The walnut veneer dashboard, characteristic of the latest BJ8, adds a touch of refinement to a British sports car of this era. The complete instrumentation, three-spoke steering wheel, wooden-knob gear lever, the original radio still in place, adjustable steering column and the seat belts contribute to the authenticity and charm of this cabin.
The car also benefits from a air-conditioning system installed with care by Clayton Classics, a renowned English specialist in the restoration and improvement of classic cars. Clayton develops climate control solutions specifically for older vehicles, including the Austin-Healey 3000, with bespoke systems that can be installed in their workshops. On this example, the installation was carried out in a coherent and fully integrated manner, significantly enhancing comfort without distorting the car’s spirit.
Under the long bonnet, the 2, 912 cm³ inline-six, also matching numbers, develops 148 horsepower and presents in a very good visual and mechanical state. During the full restoration carried out between 2008 and 2010, the mechanics and transmission were carefully restored as part of a comprehensive project documented by invoices and photographs.
More recently, the car has benefited from notable attention at Clayton Classics. Several components have been replaced or upgraded, including the fuel pump, the tachometer, electronic ignition, distributor cap and ignition coil. A Clayton invoice from March 2025 also confirms a thorough intervention on the cooling system, with a high-performance radiator, an electric water pump and an auxiliary pump, as well as a rebuild and adjustment of the carburettors.
The gearbox is equipped with overdrive and also fitted with a long differential, which lengthens the ratios and provides real driving comfort on the road. This setup allows you to enjoy the torque of the six-cylinder with a more comfortable engine speed at steady highway cruising.
The car now runs very pleasantly, with a smooth, torque-rich engine that is perfectly suited for road use. The improvements made, notably the integrated air-conditioning, electronic ignition, optimized cooling and the long differential, make this Austin-Healey enjoyable to use on winding roads as well as on longer journeys.
Our example is accompanied by a complete file including its two British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificates, its restoration photograph archive, numerous invoices, its UK import documents, and the historic records.
