"The K3 Magnette must rank in the history books as the most famous and successful of all the record breaking MGs. With only 33 examples produced during 1933 and 1934 this car alone gave an incredible boost to the marque and established MG firmly in the forefront of the world motor racing and record breaking league." - Richard Monk, The MG Collection.
Not only was this exceptional world beating model from MG piloted by some of the best male and female drivers of the period, but it also succeeded at some of the most prestigious and important sports-car competition events of the time. With the support of Earl Howe, 1st and 2nd in class (Eyston/ Lurani/ Howe/ Hamilton respectively) and the team prize at the 1933 Mille Miglia set the ball rolling followed up by a victory for Witney Straight at the 1933 Coppa Acerbo Junior. The impressive performance of the K3 was such that Tazio Nuvolari chose to drive one in the 1934 RAC Ulster TT where the master himself obtained outright victory on handicap. Given the success of the model and the relatively small production run, it is perhaps unsurprising that a number of “K3 replicas” have been produced over the years in order to cater for the demand for this most exotic of pre-war British Sports cars.
The factory records show that chassis no. KN0321 was built as a KN Magnette with a saloon body and first registered AKF902 in 1935 to a Mr Henry Sloan of Liverpool.
Painstakingly rebuilt by the current owner with great attention to detail and with no expense spared, the car has been prepared with competition in mind. Fully road legal, the performance is very lively and is ready for action. Brake lights and flashing indicators have been subtly incorporated along with rain lights required for racing.
Originally the car would have had a 1271cc N type engine but this has now been replaced with a supercharged 1400cc N type racing engine built by Baynton-Jones. (full details available). The gearbox is a large Wilson preselector unit with the correct remote change arrangement, the hydraulic brakes are of the correct 13” K3 style and the rear axle has a four star differential unit.
The dashboard has the correct instrumentation, fuse box, Kigass primer and hand pump to pressurise the fuel tank although the latter is no longer required for the twin fuel pump system.
MS Panels built the beautiful aluminium bodywork in the style of the original 1934 LeMans car which now resides in America and the new wheels are shod with Blockley 5. 00x19” tyres to provide sure-footed handling. The road springs are cord bound and the steering incorporates the correct split track rod arrangement. All parts are either new or rebuilt.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a fully rebuilt, authentic looking replica of a pointed tail K3 which is eminently suitable for road or competition use - the sound of the exhaust is really fabulous! May consider part exchange.
