Description
Volkswagen Scirocco Mk2 GTI 16V – Mars Red – Historic Vehicle
A well-sorted and genuinely usable Mk2 Scirocco GTI finished in classic Mars Red, featuring a period-correct 16V conversion, extensive history file, and strong OEM+ styling. A fantastic modern classic that sits perfectly between weekend cruiser and dependable usable classic.
Originally a GTI 8V, the car received a contemporary 16V upgrade earlier in its life and has since been enthusiast maintained with extensive supporting paperwork dating back to original purchase in 1983. The history file includes the original service book, receipts, maintenance records and documentation spanning over four decades.
The car spent its early years in Germany owned by a British Army Officer before later ownership by a specialist auto shop, where further upgrades and maintenance were carried out through the early 2000s. It was regularly shown at VAG events during this period.
I have owned the car since September 2024 and have recently completed significant mechanical work including an engine overhaul. Overseas relocation now forces sale.

The car starts, drives and pulls very well, and has regularly been used for long-distance trips as well as weekend driving and commuting.
Condition
Overall the car looks great for its age and remains highly original in character. Paintwork was professionally refinished by a previous owner and retains a strong shine with only minor age-related imperfections and a few small areas of bubbling, all shown clearly in photographs. Interior is clean, complete and in excellent condition for the year.
Now MOT exempt. Last MOT was completed on 03/ 11/ 2023 with advisories for:
Noisy exhaust
Underseal covering fuel pipes
Points to Note
In the interest of accuracy:
Passenger exterior door handle would benefit from adjustment/ refitting
Radio operates correctly via AUX/ USB, though aerial requires reconnection
Since rebuild has once or twice required a second turn of the key before fuel system primes. Issue seems to have gone away having applied contact cleaner to the relay.
Minor age-related paint bubbling in a few isolated areas
A rare opportunity to buy a genuinely usable and well-documented Mk2 Scirocco GTI with strong provenance, extensive history and sensible enthusiast upgrades.
