Description
1999 Mazda MX-5 Mk2 1. 8 SE (Special Edition) British Racing Green / tan leather interior. CAT N restored by specialists.
Highly desirable 27 year old modern classic. As a rarer SE model, it comes beautifully appointed from the factory with a premium wooden Nardi steering wheel, matching wood gear knob, and wood handbrake trim.
Please Note: This vehicle is registered as a Cat N, but it has been fully and beautifully restored to the high standard you see today.
Because she is a 27-year-old classic, she isn't a brand-new showroom car and will have minor age-related wear, however she looks great. A couple of bits will need fixing eg. trim on which I have collected but no time to do so. The drivers side tan leather seats are showing a bit of wear too.
The CAT N was fixed fully by MX5 Restorers in 2022, receipts attached, this was a year or so after I also used MX5 Restorers to to replace the sills which is a known weak point for cars of this age.
Additionally, the car benefits from a high-quality upgraded mohair soft-top roof fitted around 5 years ago, which is in good condition.
MOT expires in May 2027, pass with 1 advisory on a lazy lambda reading, possibly due to not using the car enough, passed when the cat was finally hot.
Also as a 1999 model its non ULEZ compliant so if you live within the M25 you'll need to know where the cameras are. (Only been tracked once). This is a fantastic opportunity to own a rare, factory-original SE spec at a much more accessible price point. Perfect for weekend blasts and sunny evening drives.
I have had this for 7 years now, and due to us needing more car seats due to children and their friends I need find this a new home. In fact its taken me a couple of years to get this far as I am reluctant to let it go!
This will be perfect for the person who wants to own something really cool, and is not afraid to do minor touch ups or tinker should they want to show it in car festivals and the like.
re CAT N, I was so annoyed when they wrote it off so I decided to bring it into a condition better than when it was in the scrape. I have all the related receipts with that for those interested.
Given its 27 years old you'll notice there will be a few non-urgent mini projects to do, such as re-varnish the handbrake and the centre console cubby could benefit from a plastic hinge being replaced or fixed/ melted with a soldering iron potentially.
Currently only 1 set of keys which we are looking for the other one so will send on when we find it. (there is a chance it got lost when we recovered it in 2022 but no one can remember), but its only 5-10 pound for a replacement.
If you do have any questions please ask, I am fast, responsive and honest.
After the restoration with MX5 Restorers, the insurance value was valued and set at 4, 000. The car can be best summarised by the front plate which reads (taken from the movie Full Metal Jacket):
This is my car, there are many like it, but this one is mine.
