Description
TVR S21989 TVR S series, this one informally known as the S1. 5 as it has the 2. 9 Cologne, early wrap around dash, short doors, manual windows, manual boot release. 56, 100 miles, MOT till May 2027. Owned by me for over 10 years during that time it’s had a full body off chassis restoration and in the rebuild replaced everything obvious / needed (huge list). The chassis was shot blasted, new steel in main rail box section by body plate, new outriggers both sides, removable sump cross member installed, then zinc primered and 2 pack spray painted silver RAL 7005. Since the body off it has done 2, 300 miles (in 10 years) all in dry summer conditions, never used in Winter or in the wet. The chassis is still in superb condition. During rebuild, replaced:- Copper Brake lines including braided hoses- Master Cylinder- Discs and pads- Rear brakes rebuilt, new shoes and cylinders- Fuel lines- Engine mounts and gearbox mount- Cosworth billeted aluminium Diff mount- Suspension bushes- Steering rack bushes- Front wishbone upper and lower Ball joints- New ACT stainless steel manifolds (exhaust is stainless straight through with no cats)- New clutch- Fuel tank POR15 coated- Even fitted a new hornIn ownership:- Serviced regularly by me- New TPS- New Cold start valve- New gaskets for throttle body, plenum, exhaust manifolds- New intake rubber hoses, shrouded in heat proof material- New dizzy cap and rotor arm- New HT leads- New spark plugs - New oil filler breather filter- Refurbished replacement rocker covers and gaskets- Alternator belt- Momo wood and leather steering wheel and Jaguar S type gearknob- New single DIN head unit and door speakers but to be honest the engine and exhaust sound outstrips any musical noiseIt’s Cureton Green (BMW Malachite Green) with tan interior and early style dash. Period correct Oz slots alloy wheels, refurbished, with Toyo Proxes showing 7mm of tread. The 2. 9 starts first time and has never missed a beat. It has what I believe is the factory fitted super sport exhaust that looks like the V8 exhaust from the rear and sounds incredible. Overall, excellent chassis, excellent interior, very presentable exterior, mechanically sound. Being a 37 year old TVR it has some age and TVR-esque aspects to highlight:- Slight weep from speedo sender gearbox side (likely a perishing oil seal)- Star crack in paintwork on o/ s rear quarter panel from before my time (likely roof panel was in boot unsecured and slid across during driving and hit from inside), not obvious from 3 foot away (photograph included)- Scratch on top of the wing next to boot panel on o/ s (up and round from the star crack)- Passenger door has gone a little saggy, needs lifting as you close it to properly catch. Possibly upper bobbin is loose (previously had a repair before my time). Upper inner returns on both doors rubbing on tub as they are opened (not unusual). 4x New door hinge bushes will be included should next owner want to have work done on the doors- Seat runners tight on carpet, likely need spacers to lift them. I’m 6ft tall so seat is fully back.- Heater slider in the dash has jammed half way (another common issue), so heater blows warm to hot when switched on- After a long run the bonnet won’t always release straight away, spring catches might need slight repositioning, I suspect it’s a heat expansion thing.- Smaller gauges often show condensation when warming up, which is a very well known TVR feature!I’m describing everything I know on the car to be completely honest. In TVR terms it’s a good car, starts first time, holds temperature, fan kicks in, holds good oil pressure that rises with acceleration, voltmeter shows alternator voltage. All stalks work, all dash lights work. Piles of paperwork and receipts including the original TVR owners manual and huge file from previous owners. It drives well, handles nicely, stops well. It sounds amazing at 3, 000 rpm and whilst only 170hp its kerb weight at 940kg means it moves along quite nicely. Original registration F928 RGS will go back on prior to sale (F6 ORG not included).
