Description
This 1980 CX2000 Athena (2 litre Douvrin engine) is covered by rust particles fallen from the decaying barn roof. I have owned it for the last 30 years and it has covered 71, 517 miles. It has a 5-speed manual gearbox and was partially modified by the previous owner to Series 2 appearance, with the addition of Series 2 black plastic body trim, Series 2 grille, and GTi rear spoiler and badge. The stainless steel bumpers were also painted with a special textured paint to make them look like plastic. There is no serious corrosion on the body, merely a general surface-rusting which appears to be due to thin paint caused by over-frequent polishing over the years. I must confess to a dent on the back wing due to being careless carrying a 4x2 wooden plank! The dark brown cloth interior is very good.
This car was exhibited at the 2014 Practical Classics show at the NEC in their "barn find" theme as it was covered in dust and debris, exactly as it is now. At that time it had already been 17 years in storage but it started easily and drove from the transporter into and around the show with no problems except a flat rear tyre. It was returned to the same barn, where it has been stored ever since.
Also to be included is the original 2 litre Douvrin engine from this car, which suffered a big-end failure approximately 10 miles after a complete rebuild!
This is a Mark 1 car with the quirky rotating drum speedometer and rev counter, and is tax and MOT exempt.
