Description

1963 MGB Roadster Mk1 – Genuine Heritage Shell – Navy Blue

For sale is a highly sought-after, early MGB Roadster. This car represents the ultimate winter project: the most expensive, difficult, and time-consuming part of any MGB restoration—the bodywork—is already completely solved thanks to a genuine British Motor Heritage body shell.
While a bare, unpainted Heritage shell alone costs over £14, 000 today, this car is fully assembled and painted, offering a massive head start for an enthusiast looking to complete a high-value Mk1.

The Body & Paint:
Built onto a structurally perfect, rust-free British Motor Heritage shell (see picture of certificate).
Finished in Midnight Blue a period correct colour which looks great today.
The paintwork is does feature a few minor areas/ blemishes that will require local correction or blowing-in to make perfect.
Zero welding or structural rust repair required.

Key Desirable Features & Interior:
Genuine 1963 early dashboard complete with working rare period Motorola radio.
Classic Black Vinyl seats in good, usable condition.
Original, highly sought-after period banjo steering wheel.
Matching painted wire wheels.
Includes both a full weather tonneau cover and a half tonneau cover.

Current Condition & Mechanicals (The Project Element):
The car is currently a non-runner and will require transport via flatbed trailer. It has been sitting and needs mechanical recommissioning:
Engine: Starts and runs, but runs roughly. It will require tuning or a top-end refresh.
Oil Leak: There is a notable oil leak (likely the typical B-series rear main seal) which will need addressing.
Brakes: Non-functional. The braking system will require a complete overhaul (lines, cylinders, and calipers) before driving.

Summary:
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a rock-solid, structurally flawless early Mk1 Roadster with all the hard-to-find period accessories intact. This is a charming car with a wonderful period feel. Once the mechanicals are sorted and the minor paint imperfections are touched up etc, this has the potential to be a £20, 000+ motor car.
V5 logbook present. Folder of history and build details includedPurchased by the original owner 1st January 1963. Then acquired by the second owner in 2002. The car then came into my ownership in 2022.
In 2002 it was restored by Jim Souter MGs in Bradford. A new BMC body shell was used in this work. (Some information available).
Following the restoration the car was used sparingly and appears to have been garaged.
Under my ownership the car has again been garage and only used on dry days.
The sub 60, 000 miles is believed to be the original total mileage (supporting documentation available).
