FRENCH ORIGIN:
Extremely rare on the market: this Firebird is not an American import. It was delivered new to France in 1971 by the official General Motors France network for the owner of a well-known large French company.
The 1971 model year is particularly sought-after for the purity of its design with the slim chrome rear bumper. The front end is clean without the large bumpers of the following years. The designers made sure to make the aerial, fuel door and windscreen wipers invisible.
MECHANICS, ELECTRICS AND RUNNING GEAR: NO WORK NEEDED
The car is mechanically very sound: it starts first time, never overheats and can cover long distances without any problems.
- Engine bay: Complete overhaul and optimisation with Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburettor (excellent balance between torque and reliability), electric fuel pump
- Cooling: System made reliable with water pump and Champion high-performance aluminium radiator (no problems in traffic jams or extreme heat).
- Gearbox: TH350 automatic gearbox overhauled by a specialist, new torque converter (smooth and positive gear changes, very effective kick-down).
- Electrics: The entire wiring loom has been replaced throughout the vehicle.
- Running gear completely overhauled (shock absorbers, ball joints, engine mounts, anti-roll bars etc...). The handling is sound.
- Power steering and power brakes working perfectly.
- Custom dual exhaust outlet (addictive sound…)
Cosmetic work remains to be done to make it perfect:
- Bodywork: Panel work and repainting needed. The car displays its very elegant original factory colour (Nordic Silver). I have new parts for bodywork renovation (seals, emblems, lettering, etc)
- Trim/ Interior: Driver's seat seam split at the backrest, centre console cracked. The rest looks good.
IN CONCLUSION:
Vehicle owned for many years which I'm selling with some reluctance to finance a new project.
It's a very reliable vehicle. The gearbox and engine are very robust. Absolutely all parts (mechanical, bodywork and trim) are available new.
The vehicle is driven regularly and garaged.
Work and maintenance carried out by a competent professional (invoices and photo file available on request)
Ideal for an enthusiast looking for a car with solid mechanics and known history.
Exchange possible only for: Camaro / Mustang / Challenger 2010 to 2014 or Honda Integra Type R (LHD).
