Description
The 500 SLC was the flagship model and the final evolution of the Mercedes C 107 series, positioned significantly above the S-Class (500 SEL W 126) in terms of pricing.
The car's impressive rally pedigree was reflected in the production models through aluminium doors and bonnet, along with various other lightweight alloy components.
The relatively short production run of just 18 months resulted in a total of only 1, 154 units built – by Mercedes standards, a very limited series.
Compared to its direct predecessor, the key distinction lies in the 4-speed automatic gearbox, which works in perfect harmony with the large eight-cylinder engine.
Our SLC was delivered to Switzerland in 1981 as one of the last 25 examples produced. It was subsequently imported back to Germany in 2002.
The specification list is comprehensive and includes an electric sunroof, climate control, ABS, heat-insulating glass and cruise control.
In 2005, restoration work was undertaken, during which the bodywork was brought to its current excellent condition and cavity-sealed, and the car was completely repainted in the original "silver-blue metallic" colour to a very high standard. The vehicle continues to benefit from this work today. Additionally, seals were replaced and wear parts on the suspension were renewed during this period.
Subsequently, the current owner – an automotive technician – acquired the 500 SLC and has driven it only approximately 7, 000 kilometres since then. During this time, all necessary servicing and repairs have been carried out.
This 500 SLC is a collectable car because....
- It has been partially restored and repainted regardless of cost
