Description
1987 Porsche 928 S4 5. 0 V8 Auto – Diamond Blue / Linen Leather – £24, 500
A very well-presented and extensively maintained UK RHD Porsche 928 S4, finished in Diamond Blue Metallic with Linen leather sports seats.
First registered on 14 August 1987, the car has now covered approximately 109, 000 miles and comes with its original book pack, stamped service book and a substantial history file containing numerous specialist invoices.
The car has benefited from over £16, 000 of documented recent expenditure, covering mechanical maintenance, cooling system, body restoration, seat refurbishment and wheels. It is not being presented as a concours example, but as a particularly attractive, properly maintained and usable 928 on which many of the expensive jobs have already been undertaken.
Recent mechanical work
More than £7, 000 has recently been spent on mechanical and servicing work, principally with Porsche specialist Loe Bank Motors.
Work has included the timing belt, thermostat and associated seals, inlet manifold gaskets, injector seals, fuel and breather hoses/ components, knock sensor, auxiliary belts, numerous seals and service items, together with a new aluminium radiator, cooling-system overhaul and flush and automatic transmission servicing.
Further work has included attention to minor PAS/ transmission leaks, coolant-level sensor, air-conditioning servicing and various electrical and adjustment work.
A new Bosch battery has also been fitted within the last month.
All of this work is supported by invoices within the history file.
Extensive body restoration
The car has undergone significant professional bodywork and corrosion repair with Bury Motor Bodies.
The documented work involved approximately 66 hours of body and fabrication labour, including repairs to the inner and outer sills, fabrication where required and work to the front wings, doors and rear quarter panels, followed by preparation, painting and polishing.
New sill trims, mounting rails and associated fittings were also installed.
This was substantial remedial work rather than simply cosmetic paintwork and is documented by invoices.
Linen leather interior
The attractive Linen leather sports-seat interior was professionally re-Connollised/ reconditioned in 2025, at a documented cost of approximately £1, 140.
The seats present extremely well, including the rarely used rear seats, and the steering wheel is also in excellent condition.
A period Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46 cassette head unit is fitted.
GTS upgrades
The car has been sympathetically updated with a number of later 928 GTS features:
GTS rear bumper and reflector panel
GTS wheels
GTS teardrop mirrors
The wheels have also recently been refurbished.
Paint has recently applied ceramic coating.
The result is a very attractive evolution of the original S4 appearance while retaining the S4's 5. 0-litre V8 drivetrain.
History and provenance
Originally supplied by Swinford Motors of Stourbridge, the car has an extensive history file and has benefited from periods of long-term ownership.
It comes with its original Porsche book pack and well-stamped service book, together with a substantial collection of historic and recent specialist invoices.
Since the recent work has been done it is used on nice dry days and drives amazing and gets looks and conversation wherever it goes.
At this age, I believe the condition, history and quality of maintenance of a 928 are at least as important as mileage. Considerable time and money have been invested in this example, including many jobs that a buyer of a cheaper 928 could otherwise face. I did everything I could afford expecting to keep the car for a very long time.
It is a very attractive, extensively maintained and enjoyable example that presents extremely well.
The car is being offered at a realistic price to facilitate a straightforward private sale.

If you want a great looking 928 with all the mechanical work sorted which has also been cosmetically refreshed look no further.
I bought the 928 because I’ve always loved the combination of its unmistakable shape, effortless V8 performance and ability to cover long distances as a proper grand tourer. This particular car stood out because of its Diamond Blue Metallic paintwork, Linen leather interior and the subtle GTS upgrades, including the rear bumper and panel, wheels and teardrop mirrors.
During my ownership I’ve concentrated on improving the car properly rather than simply making it look good for sale, with over £16, 000 spent recently on mechanical work, body restoration and the interior. The result is a 928 that presents extremely well but, more importantly, has had a considerable amount of the expensive work these cars can require already undertaken.
My favourite thing about it is probably the combination of the 5. 0-litre V8 and the wonderfully distinctive 928 shape. It feels special every time you take it out, yet it's comfortable and usable enough to genuinely enjoy. The Diamond Blue over Linen colour combination and GTS additions make this one particularly striking.
I’ll be sorry to see it go, but having completed the work I wanted to do I've enjoyed it and a new business venture has come along and funds are required elsewhere.
I think this works better than sounding like a dealer advert — it explains why you owned it and why you've spent the money on it, which is exactly what a private buyer wants to hear.
