The days of the 911 are numbered!
That is what Porsche’s management thought as the 1970s began. They studied other configurations, and that’s how several Porsches with front-mounted engines came about.
After the 924, a mid-sized model, Porsche wanted a more substantial option, a true powerful GT. This would be the 928, a genuine engineer’s car incorporating many forward-looking solutions. The 928 is equipped with a 4. 5-litre V8 producing 240bhp and, to balance the weight, the gearbox is placed on the rear axle. In terms of suspension, the rear axle benefits from multi-link steering, a first for a production car. With these highly advanced features, the 928 shown in 1977 is a remarkable grand tourer, fast, reliable and durable. In 1979 the 928 S was introduced, with a 4. 7-litre engine developing 300bhp.
The 928 S4, for its part, debuted in the second half of 1986, model year 1987, with an updated version of the 5. 0 L V8 boosted to 320bhp coupled to 16-valve heads with dual camshafts.
Some fairly significant styling updates, including new front and rear bumpers and a new rear wing, gave the car an even more avant-garde look.
With its distinctive original design, totally out of fashion, the Porsche 928 would enjoy a long career, remaining in the catalogue until 1995, with a total production of nearly 61, 000 units.
An opportunity to savour the exceptional performance of this rolling machine, with a low-mileage example.
