Description

This Scott Flying Squirrel with sidecar belonged and was refurbished under the ownership of the actor Steve McQueen, in whose keeping it remained at the time of his death in 1980, and it was subsequently sold through the McQueen estate auction in Las Vegas in 1984. The bike is finished in black and red with power provided by a liquid-cooled 498cc two-stroke parallel-twin paired with a three-speed transmission. Bike equipment includes a triangulated open frame, a double-sprung solo saddle, a fender-mounted passenger pillion, a Webb girder fork, and 19″ wire-spoke wheels. The matching sidecar features a leaf-spring chassis, a side door, a single seat, and a trunk compartment.

The Flying Squirrel is accompanied by a McQueen Certificate of Authenticity from the November 1984 Steve McQueen estate sale auction in Las Vegas and is signed by the actor’s daughter and son. Also included are a 1990-dated UK C&E (Customs and Excise) import form and tax-relief-related correspondence from the vice president of the UK chapter of the Society of Automotive Historians, as well as a clean Missouri title.

Chrome 19″ steel rims are laced to black-painted drum-brake hubs and mounted with Avon Speedmaster MKII front and Dunlop Universal rear tires. The bike’s only suspension takes the form of a Webb girder fork with a central barrel spring and adjustable side friction dampers.

The matching single-seat sidecar is mounted English-style on the left and features a side-hinged cowl, a rear-hinged side door, and a trunk compartment with a bottom-hinged lid. It rolls on a leaf-spring chassis and a 19″ wire-spoke wheel wrapped in a Yokohama tire.

The bike has had a full service recently and runs and drives exactly as it should.
