Description

1987 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC - Factory 822 ECE

Imported from Gibraltar, Very well-sorted and completely rust-free 560 SEC, finished in Mercedes Arctic White with grey/ blue leather interior. Approximately 103, 000 miles.

This is the desirable fctory 822 high-output ECE specification, with the full-power, 10:1 compression, 5. 5-litre M117 V8 producing 300 PS (296 bhp). Factory non-catalyst, high-compression specification with the associated performance drivetrain and ignition setup such as tri-y manifold, oil cooler, performance cam-shaft, gnition timing and others.

My priority during ownership has been to make the car as mechanically sound and reliable as possible, and considerable money has been spent on the important and expensive areas.
Recent work includes: genuine Mercedes torque converter, engine and gearbox mounts & dumper, radiator, water pump and thermostat, extensive air-conditioning work, cabin blower motor, SLS accumulators and hydraulic lines, new-old-stock genuine Mercedes rear hydraulic struts, anti-rollbar shackles and bushings, lower ball joints, drag links, Bilstein B4 front dampers, left side wheel bearings, steering dumper, new brakes & lines, new fuel lines and pump, spark plugs, coil, full 4 wheel tracking / balancing / centering and steering box adjustment and numerous other maintenance items.
The original hydraulic self-levelling suspension has been retained and the car drives very well.

The body is completely rust-free and was resprayed in its original Mercedes Arctic White by the previous owner circa 2016. The seats have also been retrimmed in new leather, and the interior presents extremely well.
There are a few small age-related details that could be improved further if desired, but my focus has always been on the mechanical side and making this a 560 SEC that can actually be driven and enjoyed.

I’ve driven the car on a European road trip this summer covering over 3, 000 miles, and the old Merc didn’t skip a beat. It really is a pleasure to drive.

For full disclosure, there is a touch of gearbox flare immediately from cold, which disappears after a couple of minutes. The car is currently booked in for a service to address a small gearbox leak (see MOT), using original Mercedes seals, hopefully improving the situation. The noisy cabin air recirculation motor will also be replaced at the same time, again with new old stock.

No expense has been spared on this car during my ownership. I have used a classic Mercedes specialist for all the work, using original Mercedes parts or top-tier aftermarket parts wherever available.
Finally, I am in absolutely no hurry to sell the Merc, so please spare me unreasonable offers!

Extensive invoices and history are available. I’m very happy to answer any questions, talk through the car and all the work carried out. Inspections are very welcome, and I look forward to showing the car to anyone genuinely interested — including a good general nosing about and a test drive of this legendary car.

I'll include set of new H&R lowering springs for c126 with SLS suspension - I've had those fitted briefly and while it much improved the cornering and tastefully lowered the car by around an 1 1/ 2 inch, I've missed that soft 'boat' feel of the front ends so swapped it back to restored and powder- coated original springs.

This is the desirable factory 822 high-output ECE specification, with the full-power, 10:1 compression, 5. 5-litre M117 V8 producing 300 PS (296 bhp). Factory non-catalyst, high-compression specification with the associated performance drivetrain setup. Perfectly mechanicaly sound and perfectly usable daily driver if so desired!
