Description

This is the 1985 Citroen 2CV that appeared on the Opening Credits of The Antiques Roadshow in the early 2000s.
It featured the car being driven through the Dales with a Grandfather clock sticking up through the sunroof!
Michael Aspel was a passenger in the car when at one time Rob McCall took C287YYG for a spin. He signed the Owners Handbook and dated it 2nd July 2003, saying it was very comfortable.
The 2CV was extensively restored in around 2023, with £1000s being spent, including body and new Galvanised Chassis.
It is fitted with 123 Electronic Ignition, which means totally maintenance and adjustment free.
The 2cv has new tyres all round
The Citroen is in excellent condition bodily and mechanically and drives great, with brakes etc in full working order. The seats are comfortable, maybe very slightly tired, with 2 little cigarette burns in the driver's seat. The front passenger seat has had a repair, as can be seen in the photos.
The body is in first class order, with absolutely no rust anywhere.
There is an extensive MOT history with the car, although not complete, it is very extensive with only a few of the MOTs missing.
The 2CV was obviously well used from new until 2002 as can be seen with the MOT history.
Before I purchased the car i paid for a full HPI and Vehicle History Check. It stated that there was a 35, 000 mileage discrepancy in the mot history. On checking, I found that the speedometer is 5 digit only, and goes to 99, 999 then goes back to zero, so the HPI didn't allow for this.
The speedometer showed 90, 500 miles at the MOT in June 2001, with the MOT reading at 00, 452 miles in July 2002. That would put the true mileage at over 140, 000 miles, but the engine/ gearbox has obviously been worked on as it drives, looks, and sounds fine.
While the car is now over 40 years old, it qualifies for Mot exemption and free Road Tax. I have decided to keep the car mot'd and had it mot'd on the 15th of September with no advisories
There are receipts, tax discs and some history I received with the car.
If you are looking for a car that is ready to show and drive, then this is the one.
Unfortunately, within days of purchasing the car, I lost my storage for the car, and also within days of my registering it in my name with DVLA. I have the Logbook in my name.
I also have my Humber Super Snipe and my Morris Minor Traveller that I have owned for a few years, but I won't part with them. So, as much as I have just bought the 2CV, it is the one that must go as it is too nice to sit outside.
The Citroen now has hub caps. I didn't have them when I took all the photos. I think the car looks nicer with them, so i bought new ones. They are now fitted.
While i had the wheels off to fit the hubcap captive nuts, i saw that the wheel rims were new and not refurbished.
I only put the car up on stands after I had it mot'd to take decent photos of the underside to show the condition of it.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Anything you would like to know about the 2CV, feel free to ask. Doug.

I used to drive my brother's 2CV in the 80s and loved it. So it put me in the mood for one, and saw this one for sale in the Glamis Extravaganza car show.
It wasn't until I spoke to the owner for the second time that he mentioned its Antiques Roadshow connection. I then started doing a bit of research and found out that it was indeed the actual vehicle that was used in the opening credits of the show, featuring Michael Aspel.
Michael Aspel and this Citroen 2cv are famously linked through one of the most memorable opening title sequences in British television history on BBC's Antiques Roadshow.
There are 2 small cigarette burns in the drivers seat that happened when Michael Aspel dropped a cigar. I have seen many photos of Michael in public but have never seen him smoking in any of them.
While I have no proof that he ever smoked, I have no proof that he didn't!. Possibly an Urban myth.
The original owner of the 2cv at the time was Rob McCall who used it to transport everything from tree saplings to piglets before it was rented by the BBC.
The show was recorded in July 2003 and aired on the 7th of September 2003.
