1961 VW Beetle – Beryl Green – 12V Conversion – Recently Rebuilt 1300 Engine July 2026
A lovely 1961 VW Beetle finished in Beryl Green, with a later 1300cc engine and 12-volt electrical conversion.
The car is a genuine, usable classic The engine was rebuilt in July 2026. But does, however, appear to be slightly noisy once it reaches operating temperature. I have had a mechanic listen to the noise, who said it was just an engine noise and not to worry. But I am being completely transparent about this for any prospective buyers, and I recommend they listen and make up their own mind. I’m not a mechanic and don’t know if it is a problem or not. The engine has undergone a a complete rebuild in July 2026, with approximately £3, 000 spent on the work, including:
* Align bore crankcase
* Crankshaft grind
* Main bearings
* Cam bearings
* 8 cam followers
* Big-end bearings
* 8 plated pushrod tubes
* Complete engine gasket set
* Fuel pump pedestal
* Silicone crank seal
* Exhaust fitting kit
* VR1 20W/ 50 engine oil
* 4 spark plugs
* Piston and barrel set
* Oil pump
* Oil pump cover plate
* Reconditioning of both cylinder heads
* New clutch kit
* Stainless-steel tailpipes
* New accelerator cable
The engine starts and runs well, does not smoke and pulls well with no apparent loss of power, and does not backfire. But as mentioned above, it does become slightly noisy when hot. The recent rebuild invoice and photos to prove the rebuild.

Condition
The car presents well for its age but is not a concours example, there are some areas of bubbling in the paintwork, and the chrome is pitted in places. These imperfections are reflected in the asking price and should be taken into consideration when viewing the car.
