Description
This exceptional 1972 1275 GT has a remarkable history. Discovered in a lock-up garage in Southend-on-Sea in 2010, the garage had become so overgrown that the door was completely obscured by shrubs and weeds and had to be forced open. Inside, beneath years of dust and debris, were two early 1275 GTs, a Mini Clubman Automatic, together with numerous Mini engines and original parts scattered across the floor.
The entire collection was acquired by Roger Hill, a highly respected Mini specialist with more than 40 years' experience building race and rally Minis and restoring classic examples. Roger is also a founding member of the Mini Cooper Register.
This car became Roger's 28th full restoration, completed during 2015-2016. His aim was to preserve the car as faithfully as possible to factory specification while incorporating a handful of discreet, sympathetic upgrades to enhance reliability and drivability. The restoration concluded with a live AFR rolling-road tune, producing a healthy and responsive 70 bhp. Since completion, the car has covered just over 2, 100 miles and remains a delight to drive.
The immaculate bodywork is beautifully complemented by the stunning original-style red interior. It retains its original 1275 GT steering wheel with leather rim, the increasingly rare original Rostyle wheels, matching Yokohama tyres, and an exceptionally detailed engine bay complete with its original metal air filter housing.
The car was featured in MiniWorld magazine in January 2026, recognising both the quality of the restoration and its originality. A truly exceptional example of one of the most sought-after classic Minis.
Purchased from Richard Williams Classic Minis in October 2023.
