History The very first Jaguar E-Type was the fruit of a dedicated development in the hands of the Jaguar racing team after the iconic success of the D-Type at Le Mans during the previous decade. The car was first shown to the press on 15 March 1961, generating incredible enthusiasm and giving birth to a genuine automotive icon — but it nearly did not see the light of day. The demand for road tests from the British press was such that the E-Type planned for Geneva was still off the British coast on the evening of 14 March 1961. Thus, faced with urgency, Bob Berry, a Jaguar director, drove the car at full speed from the Coventry factory to the Parc des Eaux-Vives in Geneva, arriving only 20 minutes before the car was unveiled to the world. Of course, 20 minutes later, chaos broke out. The car was revolutionary in many respects, but it was its elegant and iconic bodywork that set it apart from other cars currently in production. It was also equipped with body-coloured headlamps and a centered twin exhaust, which differentiated it from all other production models of the era. The rumour goes that Enzo Ferrari called it the “most beautiful car ever built” on its release. But it is not only its look that impressed many about the Jaguar E-Type and that made it one of the most desirable cars of production. The launch price of the car was around £2, 250, compared with £38, 000 in present money, which made it surprisingly more affordable than many other sports cars. One cannot say the same about the price of the Jaguar E-Type today, as its iconic history has made it a sought-after milestone in the modern market. It also featured much more modern specifications such as independent rear suspension and versatile disc brakes that put it ahead of its time. The 4. 2-litre engine developed 265 bhp and could reach a top speed of 240 km/ h, which at the time made it the fastest production car in the world. The E-Type era is characterised by three distinct phases of three different E-Type models from its start in 1961 to final production in 1974: Series 1, Series 2 and Series 3.

Description We are offering for sale this 1968 Jaguar Type E Series 1. 5.
The Jaguar Type E Series 1½, produced between 1967 and 1968, is a transitional version between Series 1 and Series 2. It retains the iconic design of the first generation, with its flowing lines and long bonnet, but incorporates some technical and aesthetic modifications. Among the evolutions, the disappearance of the bubble-top headlights, now more exposed to comply with American regulations, is noted. The interior also receives redesigned stalks and a modernised dashboard. Under the bonnet, it still mounts the 4. 2L inline-six, developing 265 horsepower, offering notable performance for the era. Rare and sought-after, this intermediate version is prized by collectors for its unique blend of classicism and modernity.
Originating from America, delivered new to the Jaguar dealer in New York on 9 May 1968, the car is Pale Primrose Yellow with a black interior and a black hood. This car was imported to France in September 2021 and has been issued a collector’s registration after receiving its FFVE certificate. The car is Matching Numbers, in keeping with its origin. It features a 4-speed manual gearbox and a 4. 0L inline-six engine developing 265 bhp with two Zenith Stromberg carburettors. The car presents well with a black hood that is recent and an interior in excellent condition. The dashboard is complete and everything works. The car is supplied with a tonneau cover. It is fitted with wire wheels. The engine has been overhauled and everything is operational. The car is lively to drive, smooth with good response from the six-cylinder in-line. The sound is exceptional with this six-cylinder. The chrome is in good condition, the headlights as well, the paintwork is of very high quality, the openings are aligned, the front bonnet is in excellent condition. The doors close well. Note that the windscreen is cracked on the driver's side. Structurally, the car is not in good condition; the floors have been replaced with new ones but the workmanship is not correct, it...
