Description
Parallel to the legendary Porsche 911, the German marque launched the Porsche 912 in 1965. Its appearance is identical to the 911’s, but its equipment is simpler. The Porsche 912 was fitted with a 1, 600 cm³ four-cylinder engine and its price was considerably lower than that of the 911. This made the 912 an attractive and capable Porsche, also available in a drop-top Targa version, as evidenced by this superb example of the Porsche 912 Targa produced in 1968. This car is particularly unique in several respects.
This stunning short-wheelbase Porsche 912 Targa was delivered new to Spring Valley, California. Its original colour was Tangerine Red, but it was repainted in the superb Canary Yellow shade during a full restoration. The interior remained entirely original and is in exceptional condition. This car belonged to a single owner from 1971 to 2023, who evidently took great care of it. The 1971 US registration documents accompany this magnificent Porsche 912, as do its California licence plates.
This Porsche 912 was restored some time ago and is in near-perfect condition. Its Canary Yellow finish features a deep gloss and the paintwork is in excellent condition. The chrome and trim are also in very good condition and shiny. The rubber components and finishes are likewise. The body panels fit perfectly, and the doors (as well as the bonnet/ hood and boot lid) close solidly and securely. The superb original Fuchs wheels accentuate this Porsche 912 Targa. The removable Targa roof is also in excellent condition.
The interior of the Porsche is still in excellent original condition. The black vinyl interior looks superb and the seats are comfortable and well-fitted. The dashboard (with brushed aluminium inlays) is also in excellent condition and all instruments function correctly. The car is equipped with a Blaupunkt Blue Dot radio that is perfectly matched (and functional), headrests and original door pockets. Everything is still in excellent condition and very well maintained. The large original steering wheel is also original and provides an excellent grip.
Under the bonnet, the engine bay is immaculate. It is evident that this car has been maintained with a great deal of care and attention. The 1, 582 cm³ four-cylinder boxer engine purrs with smoothness and remarkable quietness, delivering ample power for sporty yet comfortable driving. The four-speed manual gearbox shifts with excellent precision and exceptional smoothness. The car is equipped with disc brakes at the front and rear, with firm and effective braking. At the wheel, it is also clear that we are looking at an exceptionally well-maintained Porsche 912 Targa in superb condition.
