1973 MGB GT with Overdrive – YNA 245M - £15, 500
This is a truly terrific car with a great history – only two family owners from new (brother to sister to sister’s son to current owner), and only 27, 000 miles. During the long-term family ownership, the car was laid up for a number of years, we think from around 1981, before being passed on to the current owner in 2014 – who began an extensive restoration. The car was completely stripped and over a period of eight years, everything was renovated or renewed to an exacting standard, and the car has turned out to be one of the best we have ever seen. During the restoration, the body was taken back to bare metal and no significant rust was found. This was followed by a top class paint job in Teal Blue by the aforementioned current owner, who happens to be a retired car body specialist. The mechanics were all overhauled as necessary and many parts renewed. Internally, all the upholstery was completely renewed using top quality materials, including leather seats which as you can see, are very smart indeed. The dashboard has been nicely finished in walnut, and a wooden Moto-lita steering wheel completes the internal work very well. Chrome wire wheels were then fitted, together with five brand new matching tyres. Mechanically, the car is excellent and drives just as a new MGB would, including lively engine, quiet back axle and gearbox, and smooth overdrive. Brand new SU carburettors were fitted during the restoration. This is a remarkable car – a credit to the owner who has paid enormous attention to detail. You can see from the photographs how good it is throughout, including detailed engine bay, properly painted boot area, and an underside to eat your breakfast from!! The paperwork file includes the original bill of sale from Lookers of Manchester, British Leyland Passport to Service, old MOT certificates which support the mileage, historic invoices, an album of photographs showing the rebuild, and MOT certificate to 20th July 2027.
