The Appeal
It’s ironic that, in the MGB’s long life, what the factory never bothered to do, an army of dedicated enthusiasts has resoundingly delivered. That is to develop the B’s potential in many and varied interesting directions, most notably by extracting more power and better handling.
With its rebuilt, balanced and lightened engine and virtually brand new Vitesse Global Mazda 5spd gearbox, this 1975 B certainly fits that theme. It also benefits from Spax shocks, a sonorous big bore stainless exhaust and a 12V battery conversion. The eagle-eyed will also spot the roll bar. The car began life as a ‘rubber bumper’ model but now features a neat chrome bumper conversion with a smart set of Minator Minilite-style alloys. We’re told that the wheels and tyres are new.
The vendor tells us that he acquired the car in 2025 and has completed a restoration begun by the previous keeper in 2020, after which it was little used for five years. The previous work totalled £8,600 we’re told, to which the buyer has invested considerable further sums, including an invoice for £1,800 for repairs to the coolant system and other areas.
Painted in attractive Brooklands Green and with a very tidy, original interior, this is a smart B whose many upgrades make it very entertaining and usable.
The vendor says:
“For a car that has just turned 50yrs, this MGB is a lovely drive, the exhaust makes you heard before being seen, and the car does not disappoint in looks either with clean lines from a top quality respray. Having owned several, this is the best one yet and having been able to get it back to near factory interior condition just adds to the lovely feel of the car. I will be sorry to see it go, but the house needs a heat pump, so the sale will help pay for it.”
