Le Attrattive
In the automotive world, France boasts a solid reputation for innovative and offbeat solutions. Think of the Citroën DS. But there’s another car that was probably just as revolutionary and perhaps even bolder.
We’re talking about the Matra 530. In its day it challenged every rule, aesthetically and mechanically. Its technical specifications and its shapes are truly extraordinary: a small four-seat sports car with a mid-mounted engine, a removable Targa roof and a decidedly unconventional style.
The 530 was the first car designed and produced entirely in-house by this exceptionally innovative manufacturer. Its name, equally unusual, derives from the name of a rocket produced by the company’s defence division.
The LX version was introduced in March 1970 after a light restyle by Michelotti, which included the addition of a rear tailgate. Only 4,731 were built in total, and surviving examples are today exceptionally rare.
Yellow with black vinyl interior, this 530LX has had only two owners since new. It is fitted with a Ford V4 engine and the odometer shows relatively low mileage. It is in largely original condition, but has been driven sparingly since 1986, so may require some restoration and tune-up work by the buyer. For this reason, it represents a very interesting opportunity to acquire a specimen of these extraordinarily rare and truly unique sports cars.
