The Appeal
Often dubbed the war-winning Chevvy, the CMP trucks were perhaps the most rugged machines that the American marque ever put their name on. Solidly engineered to a standardised design, these trucks were built in large quantities across numerous theatres with numerous Allied forces - all of whom only had good things to say for the machine.
This particular example is a 3-ton airportable variant fitted with the number 13 cab - one of the very last to be produced in 1945. This 'pug-nosed' cab was compact and space-efficient, with downward-angled windshields preventing sun glare and reflections giving away positions for enemy aircraft, while the lightweight body made for a modular machine that could be easily transported by air or sea.
Following the war, this truck entered service with the Norwegian Army, which is well regarded amongst military vehicle collectors for keeping its equipment in good condition. Traces of winter white paint from its Norwegian service can still be seen in various places, adding to its authentic character. The current owner acquired the vehicle from BAIV in Holland and had it serviced by Mike Jetten, with work including a cylinder head de-coke and new brakes and tyres all round.
The vendor reports that the "Stovebolt" straight-six engine is running sweetly, and it carries a fine working patina that only adds to its character.image.png1.94 MB
