The Appeal
The Jaguar XK120 caused a sensation when it was launched at the 1948 London Motor Show. The marque’s first post-war sports car, it introduced the legendary XK straight-six twin overhead-camshaft engine in 3.4-litre form, which was capable of propelling the new car the top speed of 120mph, which its name referenced. The car’s performance was reinforced by speed records and success in motorsport, including victory in the Alpine Rally in 1950 and 1951.
This is an SE model, boasting more power, a dual exhaust system and firmer suspension for improved roadholding. It was originally sold in the USA by the official Jaguar distributor, Hoffman. Later imported to the UK, it underwent a full restoration by Guy Broad in 2014-15, when it was also converted from left- to right-hand drive. The seller has owned the car since 2017, and has always kept it in a garage.
The black paintwork and chromework present exceptionally well, and benefit from an April 2026 refresh, including polishing. The car is fitted with centre-lock stainless steel wire wheels, with nearly-new tyres, and features a louvred bonnet and screen mirrors. It also benefits from disc brakes, sand-cast 2-inch carburettors and a stainless steel exhaust system, and comes with weather equipment and a fitted winter cover.
The deep red leather interior benefits from adjustable C-Type bucket seats and three-point harnesses, providing greater support.
Benefits from a recent exterior refresh and an engine rebuild in 2024. The car comes with a Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, issued in 2017.

Hello Richard, I’m very interested in the XK120 and am considering bidding. Before doing so, could you please clarify the engine-number discrepancy? The number shown on the car appears to be W 9657-8S, whereas the Jaguar Heritage/Production Record shows W 6597-8S, and I understand the V5 also shows a different number. Could you please send me clear photographs of: - the engine number on the block, - the number on the cylinder head, - the engine/data plate, - and the relevant page of the Jaguar Heritage certificate? I would also be interested in seeing the documentation from the 2024 Sigma Engineering engine rebuild and any documentation from the Guy Broad restoration.

Apologies I meant to say the engine numbers, chassis numbers are correct. On the car plate it shows W 9657-8S Yet on the Jaguar certification it shows W 6597-8S Can you explain the difference as it could effect the FIVA certification on application
