The Appeal
It’s understandable why MG chose to revisit the TF name for the revised MGF, because the original was the last of an illustrious line of vintage-styled cars that cemented the Abingdon firm’s dominance of the market for fun, simple and reliable roadsters.
Alongside a sleeker, more modern style, the final TF Midget got the bigger and more powerful 1.2L XPEG engine plus sharper rack and pinion steering. Those changes make these cars much more usable than their predecessors. It may also explain why this 1954 Old English White TF Midget has had just five keepers in its long life, the first until 2003.
Most TFs went to the USA, usually snapped up by ex-servicemen, so this lovely UK market RHD car is a rarity. It spent its life in its home country until 2024, when it was acquired by the current Swiss keeper. The previous keeper held onto it for 12 years and during that time it benefited from a broad programme of mechanical work covering the fuel system, cooling system, exhaust, suspension, and ignition. The car presents well throughout and is accompanied by a solid paperwork file, including FIVA registration, making it a well-documented TF that warrants close attention.
