Highlights
- Rare and collectable final-year Model 7
- £10,382 restoration by Norton specialist Bryan Small
- Very well presented factory standard example
- Barely used since completion so remains in great order
The Appeal
The Model 7 Dominator is notable for collectors because it introduced Bert Hopwood’s brilliant 497cc V-Twin, an engine that went on to power some of the firm’s greatest post-war bikes. What makes this gorgeous example particularly special is that it is a final year example that has been extensively restored by Norton guru Bryan Small.
The work was commissioned by the bike’s previous keeper, who had known the bike since he was a small lad. He also worked in the Norton factory. That may explain his ‘no expense spared’ approach, resulting in invoices totalling over £10,000 for Small’s thorough renovation. As a final-year Model 7, it benefits from the revised alloy cylinder head offering better cooling, full-width hubs and an Amal Monobloc carburettor.
The 11 miles on the odometer indicate that the bike has been barely used since completion. The current keeper acquired it from a reputable auction in 2023 and has added no road miles, instead storing it carefully.
For those seeking a well-documented post-war Norton twin with a story to tell, this Model 7 warrants close attention.
