The Appeal
Much of the joy of early Land Rovers is that their stories are as compelling as their capability. As working vehicles, those tales are generally visible across their bodywork and interiors.
Few, we suspect, are quite as storied as this remarkable 1959 survivor. Presented in unrestored ‘barn find’ condition, its panelwork speaks volumes about its 67 years. As you can see, the original grey paint has literally worn off, revealing the aluminium alloy panels beneath, which remain in generally good condition.
We’re told that it has remained in the same family from new and was found in the original keeper’s barn. As an early ‘home market’ Series II, it retains some desirable features like the dial vent openers and hard top-mounted indicators that were lost with later models. The vendor tells us that the 2.25L petrol engine starts easily and runs well.
What do with it? That’s the fascinating dilemma facing the buyer. Whatever happens, we hope at least some of its history is retained to entertain future generations.
