The Appeal
The Series V was the final evolution of Rootes’ transatlantic-infused MGB competitor. Like its Abingdon rival, buyers always felt it could do with more power, which is where Holbay came in. The firm offered a comprehensive aftermarket conversion that included alloy head and twin Weber carburettors to dial up the power.
This pretty 1967 Series V has what the vendor believes is a genuine Holbay motor and that Weber set up. It adds to the appeal of a well-kept car whose lengthy four-year restoration was completed in 2004, when the current keeper acquired it. Finished in white with a lovely retrimmed red leather interior, it is a particularly attractive example of these stylish cars.
The vendor has used the car regularly, garaging it between uses. He tells us that it has been serviced regularly by a local specialist. Recent work in 2025 includes a new starter motor and fuel pump. It is a mark of his approach that, despite no longer requiring a MOT, it carries a voluntary test valid to April 2026. There is one single, minor advisory to note.
The vendor says:
“Mechanically very good. No known faults. Starts and runs well. The engine is believed to be a genuine Holbay, with twin Webers. An electric cooling fan and electronic ignition are fitted.
“Good condition usable classic, great to drive. Car has been serviced regularly by a local professional. MoT to April 2026.”
