The Appeal
The W114 coupé, penned by Paul Bracq, is one of the more elegant shapes to emerge from Stuttgart. In 250C form, its pillarless profile and clean lines make it a quietly stylish alternative to the more commonly seen SL roadsters of the era, and a car that tends to draw admiring glances wherever it goes.
This example was imported from California in 2020 and subsequently underwent an extensive restoration at the hands of AT Technicians and Woodham Mortimer. The work encompassed bodywork, 5 coat respray, interior and mechanicals. Corrosion was cut out and new metal welded in, before a dark red finish was applied over the straight body. Inside, the cabin was retrimmed in tan leather and Alcantara, while the engine was rebuilt with twin Weber carburettors and given a thorough tune.
Thoughtful modern upgrades, including a stainless steel exhaust and updated power steering and air conditioning, lend it a tasteful resto-mod character. All original components which have been retained, including the original Bakelite steering wheel, along with several new spares, are included. kept for those who may wish to return it to standard specification.
The vendor states: "The car is a real ‘head turner’ that always attracts considerable attention and has won many awards locally. It is in excellent condition and only a change of personal circumstances forces sale”.

Seller's Comments
"Rare in the UK, this version of the Mercedes 250C W114 is one of only ten thousand, five hundred built to this specification, specifically for the US market in the late 1960s. This 1972 four-speed, auto, coupe is powered by the M130 2.8 litre, straight-six engine, with twin carbs*. Considered as one of Mercedes most durable engines, the W114 put Mercedes saloons on the consumer map in the U.S., following negativity prior to its launch in 1968.
Notice the absence of the ‘B’ (central) column, which when driving with both front and rear windows down, gave an air of ‘freedom’, something that with the addition of headrests appealed to the American market, especially in the likes of sunny California, where it spent most of its former years. Imported to the UK in 2020, this ‘72 example has been fully restored with some up-to-date refinements, whilst largely remaining sympathetic to its originality. *Originally Zeniths but replaced during restoration with Webbers"
