The Appeal

If you’re one of the many people in the market for one of the last ‘grand tourer’ style E-Types then this is the kind of car you want to find. It is a USA specification manual Open Two Seater, built in 1973, and it arrived in the UK with its single current keeper in 2016. Since then, it has had over £36,000 spent on it via marque specialists. Key highlights include a gearbox rebuild, suspension, coolant system and brake work, carburettor overhaul and, of course, regular servicing.

The car has only covered 2,000 miles during this time, which means the buyer gets virtually the full benefit of all this investment. There is also a useful voluntary MOT to add transparency - it runs to September 2026 with no advisories.

Finished in Signal Red with black leather cabin, this USA specification car remained with its first keeper until 1977 and then its second from then until 2014. Reports indicate that the 35,361 displayed miles is correct. The paintwork is said to be largely original, with inevitable light signs of patina, but the interior looks barely used.

With the mechanicals sorted and the reassurance of that MOT the charm displayed by mostly original paintwork makes this car one of only a handful of survivors never to have been restored. The door shuts, the bonnet shut and the boot shut, along with the roof fit must be seen to be believed.

Key to this well kept 1973 E-Type’s appeal is its high level of originality. We’re told that the bright Signal Red paintwork is largely original. Likely due to this there are a few minor marks and chips to note, but nothing significant or unsightly. The bodywork, a key check on these cars, is well kept and shows good panel fit. There are no structural advisories on the current MOT.

Inside the black leather interior with its original factory wheel and period radio is very well kept. The matching black fabric roof was reportedly replaced in 2014 and remains in good order.

Since the vendor acquired the car in 2016, it is fair to say he has taken a ‘no expense spared’ approach, using highly respected model specialists to exact an extensive mechanical overhaul to virtually every area of the car. It has covered less than 2,000 miles in that time.

The work is summarised above and detailed in the photos. Key points include a gearbox rebuild in 2016, suspension and brake overhauls at various stages and attention to the cooling system. The carburettors have also been professionally attended to. Despite the very sparing use it has been regularly serviced, most recently in August 2024. The corresponding MOT for this time indicates the car has covered less than 1,000 miles since.

The current voluntary MOT gives buyers extra transparency around this car’s condition. It runs to September 2026 with no advisories.

Interested parties should note this lot is currently on view near Winchester, Hampshire. Vehicles must be collected by 28th March 2026 (subject to payment of the lots). From 28th March, vehicle storage charges apply to the buyer.
