The Appeal
The Triumph Dolomite Sprint looks much like any other '70s sports saloon. But under the skin, it was a highly innovative car, and especially capable on the race track. Launched in 1973, it was among the very first production cars to feature a 16-valve four-cylinder engine - a remarkable piece of engineering from British Leyland's Triumph division that produced approximately 127 bhp from just two litres. Combined with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, the Sprint offered a genuinely sporting driving experience wrapped in the understated elegance of a compact British saloon.
Our example is an early car, first registered in May 1973, and has spent its life in Italy. Finished in brown with a beige fabric interior, it presents a period-correct colour combination that suits the car's character. The vendor reports that the bodywork is in good general condition, while the interior is described as well-maintained and consistent with the original specification. Mechanically, the car is said to be functioning well.
Italian-registered and with its documentation reported to be in order, this Dolomite Sprint would suit an enthusiast seeking a usable and historically interesting British sporting saloon. It is equally at home in a collection of period performance cars or participating in historic rallies and events across Europe.IMG_2564.JPG4.42 MB
