The Appeal
The MGB is as definitive as the likes of the Mini Cooper or the Rolls-Royce. These nifty little sports cars remain one of the most iconic classic cars of all time, with an incredible support network and no-fuss personalities that are easy to keep and easy to get on with. With over half a million produced, finding an MGB is straightforward, but locating a good one that's been thoughtfully specified and carefully maintained is another matter entirely.
This handsome, remarkably low mileage example, comes adjoined by a very pleasant tale. In the early spring of 1978, the car's first owner, one Mrs. Stossel, living at Headcom in Kent, was asked by her husband what she would like for her birthday. She wanted an MGB - but only if it was bright red. Her husband was a shareholder in Wadhain Stringer, the British Leyland distributor - Mr Stringer, head of the distributor, had a policy to send out postcards to shareholders that they simply had to return to get any car they wished. Mr. Stossel returned the card with a requirement for a blaze red MGB. To make a long story short, it was gifted with a big pink gift bow and became Mrs. Stossel's prized possession, covering only 10,000 dry miles in its first 28 years.
Decades later, this highly impressive low-mileage MGB is resplendent. It benefits from a desirable chrome bumper conversion and wire wheels, reverting the car to the gleefully simple as-designed styling so heavily praised by enthusiasts past and present. The vendor informs us that the car has been stored in a centrally heated environment with a minimum temperature of 15 degrees, which has clearly contributed to its preservation.
Recent maintenance has been thorough, with a comprehensive service completed in June 2025 that included annual service items, gearbox oil, differential oil, greasing, and a front brake caliper rebuild. It's all in the impressive paperwork file, which includes plenty of invoices for new parts and mechanical work, too. image.png1.63 MB
