The Appeal
For air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts who like to get out and enjoy their 911s, the 1980s SC is something of a sweet spot in the model’s complicated development. Equipped with the bigger, tougher 3L flat six, built before emissions started to stymie power output and offering the legendary ‘915 experience’ thanks to its 5spd gearbox, these cars are for the drivers.
This car leans into the period cool with its Tobacco Brown metallic paintwork and well-kept matching leather interior. Period options like the black Fuchs and whale tail add neat details. The car is said to be largely original and unrestored, yet benefits from ongoing maintenance and servicing, and is said to run well. It was serviced by Technik 9 in 2023, and the vendor advises a recent service and new alternator.
The vendor acquired the car in 2014. The VIN confirms it as a ‘Rest of World’ car with the more powerful 188bhp output. He tells us that it was exported to Australia early in its life, before returning to the UK in the 1990s.
The condition is best described as ‘usable’ with some variation in paint colour to note in photos plus areas showing bubbling, notably on the sills. The vendor tells us that the car is mechanically sound and the interior presents well, so it is a good basis for improvement.
The vendor says:
“Drives like a true air cooled 911 loud and looks the part.”
