The Appeal
The original Range Rover was exported as a ‘CKD’ kit with local assembly at British Leyland’s Blackheath plant in Cape Town. This 1982 ‘Suffix F’ example is finished in rare Sunburst Yellow’, which was only available for local buyers, and is a highly original 3dr with recent careful renovation.
We’re told that it has had just two previous keepers in its life. The condition is impressive for a 43 year old 4x4, the original paintwork and tan fabric interior showing some patina but evidently very hardwearing and still highly presentable. The vendor has undertaken a sympathetic set of improvements, that have focussed on preserving the original features and lightly improving where necessary. Cosmetically, the wheels have been renovated and the roof resprayed, but local market features like the arch trims and decals remain correct, as is much of the paintwork. The vendor reports that the doors and tailgate operate correctly without evident sag.
Mechanically there has been extensive work undertaken, The gearbox has been refurbished and work undertaken to the brakes and suspension. The full list is below, and includes servicing work. The vehicle carries a recent South African roadworthiness certificate and a local licence plate.
The vendor says:
“This Range Rover Classic is both a pleasure to drive and a beautiful piece of history.
It is empowering being so elevated and having such a good 360 view, with the large windows. Driving it is an ease and you feel like you are floating above the rest of the traffic.
“I have been delighted to use this car with faith that it will run reliably.
“Being inside is spacious and lovely to fill with family, easily being able to turn and see people. Having a large boot has been amazing for practicality or things less practical, flipping the back seat down and making it a large bed.
“Historically, it is a beauty, with the original paint that sits comfortably more classy that other bright-yellow Range Rovers. It has been lovely to tell people about the cars South Africa specific history.
“The car is an incredible statement to it test of time. Its rare to see a car in such an original state that has been used and cared for, for so may years.”
