The Appeal
Celebrated for its elegant Pininfarina design and lively rear-wheel drive character, the Fiat 124 Spider remains one of the most charming Italian roadsters of its era. By 1983, the model had matured into a well-balanced classic, powered by the classic 'Lampredi' 1,990cc twin-cam engine and five-speed manual gearbox that deliver an engaging, driver-focused experience.
This car is a Pininfarina Azzura. The last of the original 124 spiders. With its improved materials and superior build quality Pininfarina improved on the original significantly. They transformed the dash layout and made it a true two seater. This car has been enhanced by the addition of the original style bumpers to replace the cumbersome American style crash bumpers and sits on a lowered and improved suspension.

This example, first registered in January 1983 and imported from the USA in 2015, is finished in Rosso Red with a beige interior; a timeless pairing that enhances its vintage appeal. It’s a two-keeper vehicle, now tax and MOT exempt, and MOT history suggests upwards of an estimated 27,000 miles on the clock. The vendor notes it has “been in storage with the original UK owner and garaged with the existing.”
Said to have been “resprayed in the USA,” the paintwork shows some imperfections throughout, including treated rust bubbles. It retains its original-style bumpers and grille, features 14-inch Cromodora CD-134 wheels, and benefits from a new stainless steel exhaust. The largely original interior shows age- and usage-related wear, but the seller reports a “new dashboard and carpets” have been fitted. The soft-top is described as functional, though “it would benefit from a new hood.”
Recent mechanical work is said to include brake and suspension overhauls, sports shock absorbers, and a replacement sump. According to the vendor, “the car drives lovely, starts first time and the gearbox is great but the car needs to warm slightly before reverse can engage.” Described as “stunning” and “an easy driving car,” this 124 Spider offers a delightful blend of Italian style, usability, and character.
